about the awards

Who uses the River Tyne? How does it make you feel? What does it mean to you?

These were the questions put to amateur photographers last year for the Port of Tyne’s Reflect Awards, and now, due to the popularity of last year's Reflect, and the high quality of entrants, the Reflect is being launched for the second year running.

Once again the focus is on the River Tyne. Reflect 2008 will be followed throughout by The Journal and The Shields Gazette, as competitors try to capture the essence of the Tyne on camera. The competition is divided into four categories: Historic Tyne, Artistic Tyne, Wildlife Tyne and Maritime Tyne, and competitors can enter photographs into any of the categories which inspire them.

The winner in each category will receive a cheque for £500.00 and the three runners up will each receive a £50 Jessops Voucher. The winners' and runners-up photographs will all be displayed in the Art Works Gallery and included in an album to be used by the Port of Tyne as a valuable addition to their corporate literature.

The competition is launched on April 9th, and the winners' reception will be hosted in October. The competition is open to anyone who enjoys taking photos.
