REFLECT NORTH EAST PLACES
Entrants are encouraged to reflect places throughout the region – be they iconic, man-made landmarks like the Tyne Bridge or Dunstanburgh Castle or natural wonders like the coastline or Cleveland Hills.
They may be places that have a unique, personal relevance or familiar places seen from an unusual point of viewpoint. They could be well-known places or just the view from your doorstep – hidden gems unique to your home, street or immediate surroundings.
Judges will be looking for an image that encapsulates the very essence of North East England. Over 16s can enter up to 3 photos.
REFLECT NORTH EAST ENVIRONMENT
The countryside, beaches, cliffs, wild places and, perhaps above all, the rivers of the North East are justly famous across the world.
The entries in this category can illustrate this, from capturing the smallest drop of water on a fern frond to the widest, storm-swept panorama.
But beyond just depicting the land, river-scapes and seascapes as they are in this category, we would like to see pictures showing some of the threats and obstacles faced by our environment and/or depict the way in which nature continuously adapts to the changing environment.
This category requires an understanding of the world we live in and your ability to show it from a unique perspective. Over 16s can enter up to 3 photos.
REFLECT FILM
Entrants are encouraged to submit a short film titled 'The River and what it means to me'. Film clips content must be no longer than one minute long and must be uploaded via You Tube.
Judges will be looking for a good story structure to the film that can demonstrate vision and originality and reflect your own views of the river. Whether your film is taken on a video camera or a mobile phone makes no difference and if a smart phone best captures North East life and a sense of place - then go for it.
Whether you have access to editing or not and whether your film is scripted, sound-tracked or just a silent clip of a staggering view, it should be absolutely gripping. Over 16s can enter up to 3 films.
It is important you don't use music that is owned by other people without their permission – please see our rules and regulations. You can get royalty free tracks from www.beatsuite.com or maybe compose your own soundtrack.
REFLECT NORTH EAST PEOPLE
What would the North East be without the people, who live, visit, work, study or simply relax here?
In this category, the choice is as wide as your imagination – just as long as the picture shows the life and faces of the people of the region. Entrants are invited to submit photos in any style they choose, from portraits to reportage or action shots, depicting people going about their everyday business, enjoying a range of experiences or showing their emotions.
Judges will be looking for creativity and flair and, most of all, the life of the people of the region captured in an image. Over 16s can enter up to 3 photos.
REFLECT YOUTH
This is an additional category for pictures and films taken by young people aged 16 and under. Photos and films entered will be judges separately and can win up to £500.
Here entrants can submit a maximum of 3 films based on theme highlighted in the Reflect Film category description above and a maximum of 3 photographs in total.
The 3 photos submitted can be based on either People, Places, the Environment or any combination, as described above.
