PORT OF TYNE REFLECT AWARDS RULES

The Reflect competition is offered to you by the Port of Tyne Authority of Maritime House, Tyne Dock, South Shields, NE34 9PT. Port of Tyne in these rules is called 'we' or 'us'. By entering the competition, you agree to the terms and conditions stated here:-

1.0 THE COMPETITION

The competition will be called the Port of Tyne Reflect Awards and will seek out images of excellence in photography and short film from entrants of all ages anywhere in the United Kingdom.

1.1 We cannot return any entries or acknowledge receipt of images under any circumstances.

1.2 All contact with us must be by email to marketing@portoftyne.co.uk and all entries are only accepted on line via the official website www.portoftyne.co.uk/reflect

1.3 Photographic and film entries can take any format as long as they can be shown online and it will be for us to determine at our sole discretion whether any entry can be shown online. Entries will not be included if there is a technical problem accessing them.

1.4 By entering the competition you agree that your entry can appear on public display. We may also use the entry on the internet, television and in print to promote the competition and the North East of England (in newspapers and magazines for example) and share them, with their partners and commercial supporters of this competition.

1.5 An independent panel of judges selected by us will decide, in their opinion, the best entry in each category. The judges’ decision will be final and in the event of any dispute the judges shall have the final decision.

1.6 An independent expert appointed by us may validate the entries for compliance with the competition rules before they go live on the website. As a result, there will be a delay before your entry can be viewed online.

1.7 We reserve the right to reject any entries which are, in our view are unsuitable for public display, obscene, offensive, abusive, racist, defamatory of anyone, promoting or proposing hatred or physical harm against anyone, promoting violence or illegal behaviour.

1.8 We reserve, from time to time, the right to

  • cancel the competition or change any of the rules of the competition at our sole discretion at any stage.
  • change the competition prizes at our sole discretion.
  • change any winner if we are unable to contact the original winner by reasonable attempts within 7 days at our absolute discretion.

1.9 Images will be used by us to publicise the competition or the North East of England and all images will be attributed to the entrant wherever possible; and

1.10 Finalists will be invited to attend the Port of Tyne Reflect Awards evening to be held in November 2011.

2.0 THE ENTRIES

2.1 Entries must be photographed or filmed between the dates 1 September 2010 and 30 September 2011.

2.2 Entries must fall within one of the following sections: Reflect Photo, Reflect Film, Reflect Youth and Reflect Youth Film

2.3 The winning entries in each category will receive a trophy and a cheque for £500

2.4 Runners-up, three in each category, will receive a trophy and a retail voucher worth £50.00, there will be no cash alternative

2.5 By entering the competition the overall category winners consent to being filmed before the Awards evening and agree that you allow us to use your entry, name and picture in any marketing and publicity undertaken by us whether in relation to the competition or otherwise, which may be in more than one country and which may be in a number of media for example print, television, internet.

2.6 Entrants should ensure that;

where relevant they obtain written permission of any people featured in the entries or their parents or guardians if children under 16 are featured.

that all content uploaded to our website is the original work of the entrant and they are the sole owner of the copyright of the content and the use of the entry by the entrant or us must not infringe the rights of any other party.

they are fully entitled to grant us the right to make the content of entries available for viewing and distribution through our website.

entrants must obtain all necessary permissions and consents from all contributors to the content in writing before uploading content to our website (including without limitation in respect of all participants, archive footage, music and any other copyrightable material used by you in the content) for the use of the image by us.

they have not breached any laws when taking their photographs or making their films.

We will remove any uploaded content from our website without notice at any time if we become aware that such uploaded content infringes the intellectual property rights or copyright of any third party. If any person suggests that uploaded content infringes their rights then we may remove that content while we investigate.

2.7 Entries must be of images of North East England. For the purposes of this competition the North East consists of the following; Alnwick; Berwick upon Tweed; Blyth Valley; Castle Morpeth; Tees Valley ; Darlington; Derwentside; Durham; Easington; Gateshead; Hartlepool; Middlesbrough; Newcastle; North Tyneside; Redcar; Sedgefield; South Tyneside; Stockton on Tees; Sunderland; Teesdale; Tynedale; Wansbeck; Wear Valley. Any dispute about the geographical boundaries of North East England shall be decided by Port of Tyne at its absolute discretion.

2.8 Entries must be submitted to our official website by midnight on 30 September 2011 together with the official application/permission form found on our website duly completed; and

Entries must be taken by the person submitting the entry except in the Reflect Youth section where a teacher, parent or guardian may submit an entry on the young person's behalf. Photographs will not be returned. No expenses incurred in taking or submitting photographs or film will be met by us, this is the sole responsibility of the entrant.

3.0 THE SECTIONS

3.1 REFLECT PHOTO

Entrants can enter up to three photographs in each subject category. These subject categories are:

North East Places

North East People

North East Environment

Entrants may win more than one prize;

3.2 REFLECT FILM

A film with content of a maximum duration of one minute which reflects an unusual, interesting, surprising, visionary, or special aspect or activities associated with the theme 'The River and what it means to me’ should be uploaded via the You Tube channel which can be accessed on our website. The anonymity of film entrants cannot be guaranteed as in order to upload a video to You Tube you must create an account with them. Your account profile is then publicly available and will remain so when viewed on the competition website. Entrants can enter up to three films in this section.

Entrants can win more than one prize

3.3 REFLECT YOUTH

To qualify for Reflect Youth, you must be aged 16 or under on 30 September 2011.

Entrants can submit a maximum of three films based on the theme described in the Reflect Film described above and a maximum of three photographs in total. The three photographs submitted may be based on People, Places or Environment or any combination as described above.

Entrants may win more than one prize; and

Entrants must obtain permission from a parent or guardian before entering the competition.

4.0 GENERAL

4.1 By ticking the relevant box on the online registration form, you agree that you have read and agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set out above; and

4.2 The terms are governed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
