Having worked on the newspaper for 20 years I have seen many developments on and around the River Tyne.  Many of these have led me to photographing them for the paper.  Whether it be a vessel entering or leaving the Tyne, building work, or even the weather conditions. 

Many of these will also have inspired you to take out your own camera.  Lets hope so.

Simon Greener is the picture editor of The Journal, the North-East Newspaper of the Year. He began his photographic career in 1994 and has won plaudits for his pictures from around the world, including FA Cup finals, Royal visits and military exercises in Afghanistan.

Simon Greener Matt Forster

Matt Forster is a self taught watercolourist. In 1998 at the age of 21, his passion, determination and entrepreneurial flare led to the opening of his first gallery in Hexham, Northumberland. 

The Art Works Galleries in Newcastle, the biggest art gallery in the North of England all on one floor, opened in 2006. It is a joint venture of Matt and business partner, director Nicolette Perry and has revolutionised the way art is exhibited and sold. Housing five galleries and the Matt Forster Studio - from which Matt is always working towards his latest Collection – it offers space to new and up coming artist wanting an opportunity to exhibit and to established artist looking for space to show their work. The Art Works is a popular location for anything from a relaxing coffee whilst contemplating the eclectic art on display to corporate events and receptions.
